Intermec Technologies, a maker of RFID equipment in Everett, Wash., has won a big contract with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Coast Guard, the company reported on Friday. Under the agreement, Intermec will provide the agencies with "RFID technical engineering services." The company won a separate contract earlier this year to supply the government with RFID tags and readers.

RFID stands for radio frequency identification, a technology that allows people to identify and track people, animals and goods via wireless networks. The Department of Defense is bulking up on the technology to aid battlefield logistics.
