Hewlett-Packard has bulked up its iPod lineup by adding the smallest of the Apple-designed music devices.

The iPod Shuffle has joined the other digital music players offered by HP, the company announced Friday. HP last month added the iPod Mini to its stable, which also includes 20GB and 60GB Apple iPods.

HP is now selling two versions of the Shuffle: a 512MB model for $99.99, which holds about 120 songs, and a 1GB version for $129.99, which holds about 240. The music players are designed to work with the AutoFill feature of Apple Computer's iTunes music service.

The diminutive device can be plugged directly into the USB port of a PC. In addition to handling music files, it can double as a portable flash drive for data files.

HP began selling iPods as part of a larger push into the consumer electronics sector. The iPod Shuffle from HP is available in North America via the company's online store, and soon will be available from retailers such as Radio Shack, Sears and Wal-Mart.

Apple made some iPod news of its own this week when it switched to color screens for all of its standard iPods.
