The Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I) on Wednesday published documents outlining challenges in securing Web services applications. The WS-I is a group of companies that hammer out details on how Web services specifications should be implemented to ensure interoperability between products from different providers.

The Security Scenarios, published by the WS-I on Wednesday, detail challenges, threats and countermeasures to using emerging Web services security standards. The organization called on feedback to the public documents. The release of the usage scenarios is a step toward the creation of the WS-I's Basic Security Profile, which is intended to provide specific guidance on how to implement several protocols to ensure interoperability.
