Designed with an emphasis on security, SCOoffice Server 4.1 now offers server-side anti-virus protection and promises to filter junk e-mail and secure e-mail access. The software also delivers a real-time collaboration solution for scheduling group meetings, sharing contact lists and folders, and managing group task lists.
SCOoffice Server supports popular e-mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook, Qualcomm Eudora, and Netscape. There's also a complete WebClient that enables mobile workers and telecommuters to access their e-mail from anywhere.
The product, which SCO describes as a lower-cost alternative to Microsoft Exchange Server, comes with a full set of migration tools for companies needing to move users and e-mail. In addition, the SCOoffice Server Connector provides Microsoft Outlook compatibility for sharing e-mail, folders, calendars, contacts and task lists with other Outlook users. The SCOoffice Server WebClient feature makes it possible for end users to collaborate with other WebClient and Outlook end users.
Available immediately, SCOoffice Server 4.1, requires the SCO OpenServer 5.0.7 operating system, a 400MHz or faster processor (Pentium II or later), 512MB of system RAM (plus at least 1MB per user), and 2GB of hard drive space (plus additional space for user mail and data storage). Pricing starts at $299 for a 5-user license, which includes the server license. User license pricing ranges from $19-59 per user, depending on the number of users.
