Proxim on Monday unveiled the ORiNOCO Smart Wireless Suite, designed to help enterprises plan, deploy and manage their Wi-Fi networks.

The suite combines third-party applications for advanced wireless management, monitoring, planning, and verification. Proxim partners Ekahau and Wavelink developed the software, which includes Wavelink Mobile Manager, Wavelink Avalanche, and Ekahau Wi-Fi Site Survey and Prediction.

Proxim also announced the ORiNOCO AP-700, an entry-level wireless access point for small- to medium-size enterprises. The new AP supports IEEE 802.11i with AES encryption and offers advanced rogue AP and client detection -- features that are part of Proxim's Release 2.5, which is now available for all ORiNOCO access points. The AP-700 costs $599.

When used in conjunction with Proxim 2.5, the ORiNOCO Smart Wireless Suite lets enterprises automatically deploy 802.11-i-based security services and rogue AP/client detection throughout the network.

The suite also enables enterprises to plan for mission-critical wireless applications by supporting an unlimited number of devices across the Wi-Fi network, Proxim said. The company claimed the suite can improve network stability and speed by proactively diagnosing, troubleshooting, and fixing Wi-Fi system failures before problems occur.

The Wavelink Mobile Manager Administrative Console requires a 450MHz Pentium III, 128MB of RAM, 60MB of hard drive space, and Windows 2000 SP2 or XP. The Wavelink Avalanche Administrative Console requires a 550MHz Pentium III, 256MB of RAM, 200MB of hard drive space, and Windows 2000 SP2 or XP. Ekahau Wi-Fi Site Survey and Prediction requires a Pentium III, 256MB of RAM, 200MB of hard drive space, a supported Wi-Fi adapter, and Windows 2000 or XP.

The ORiNOCO Smart Wireless Suite is available immediately. Wavelink Mobile Manager and Wavelink Avalanche each sell for $1,900 for 25 access-point licenses, including one year of maintenance. Additional licenses are available for larger network deployments. Ekahau Wi-Fi Site Survey and Prediction costs $3,199, including one year of maintenance.
