NEW DELHI--Search giant Google has begun head-hunting in India.

The company said it is looking to recruit software engineers with bachelor's degrees and doctorates, as well as system administrators, for its newly established research and development center in Bangalore.

In addition, Google's center in Hyderabad is hunting for quality-assurance software personnel for an engineering testing team, as well as sales and operations personnel.

Google placed advertisements in local Indian newspapers with links to its Web site, which detailed qualifications and other information. The search engine, however, has not disclosed how many people it is planning to recruit at its two Indian centers.

Google does say that the Bangalore center is a "full peer" of its other engineering facilities, in California (Mountain View and Santa Monica), New York, Tokyo and Zurich.

Bangalore is considered India's favored tech destination. Several companies have set up their research and engineering facilities and software development centers there to take advantage of its technical and academic environment.

Rivals Yahoo and America Online have located their engineering centers in Bangalore. Additionally, Microsoft Research this week officially opened its India facility in the city.

"The information technology research community in India is really blossoming right now, and the country's Ph.D. programs are poised for strong growth as well," P. Anandan, managing director of Microsoft Research India, said in a statement.
