Oracle on Tuesday touted at the LinuxWorld conference that its Cluster File System 2 for Linux will be distributed with the Linux kernel, the software that forms the basis of Linux distributions.

The Cluster File System is designed to let multiple Linux servers use the same file system and ease management of Linux servers. Release 2 has been enhanced to work as a general-purpose file system, rather than being database-specific. The software is already distributed in Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. Now the software will be distributed as part of the Linux kernel version 2.6.16, according to Andrew Morton, Linux 2.6 kernel maintainer. Oracle Cluster File System 2 is available under the GNU General Public License.
