In addition to the two-port 82546EB chip for servers, Intel released the one-port 82545EM gigabit Ethernet controller chip for workstations and the one-port 82540EM for desktop computers. The chips, currently still in prototype stage, will cost $89.95, $59.95 and $34.95 each. The workstation and server models support the higher-speed PCI-X data-communication standard. --Stephen Shankland, Special to ZDNet News
