TOKYO--Pioneer plans to stop making 42-inch plasma display panels and instead procure panels that size and smaller from Matsushita Electric or Hitachi, the Asahi newspaper reported. Pioneer will end output of such panels at a plant in Kagoshima in southern Japan by March 2009, the paper said in the report on Saturday.
It will focus on making panels 50 inches or larger at other plants, the Asahi said. Pioneer bought the Kagoshima plant from NEC and it now wants NEC to buy the plant back, the paper said.
