The Yankee Group, one of the technology sector's pioneer research firms, has been acquired by private equity company Alta Communications, the companies said Wednesday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Emily Green, a long-time executive at various technology companies, including Yankee rival Forrester Research, was named CEO of Yankee on Tuesday, she said.

Green replaces former CEO Brian Adamik.

"This is a jewel of a firm," said Green, a former CEO of Cambridge Energy Research. "I knew I wanted to get back into technology...I have some good ideas on how to grow the business."

Launched in 1970, Boston-based Yankee Group weathered the dot-com meltdown that began in 2000. It stayed competitive while facing rival research firms Jupiter Research and Forrester.

Yankee Group provides research and advice on technology issues. Green said the privately held company is profitable and has 164 employees and 450 customers.
