WorldCom Inc. has agreed to acquire Intermedia Communications Inc. in a deal worth $3 billion in cash and stock. WorldCom will also take on $3 billion in debt through the deal. The deal gives WorldCom, the second largest long-distance carrier in the United States, control over Intermedia subsidiary Digex, a provider of managed Web and application hosting services.
