A U.S. trade panel that often hears patent disputes said on Tuesday it agreed to Samsung Electronics' request to investigate Sharp for allegedly infringing liquid crystal display patents.

Samsung had accused Sharp of infringing four patents on LCDs, which are often used in computer monitors.

The U.S. International Trade Commission is a popular venue for patent lawsuits because the agency can bar infringing products from being imported into the United States.
