The FortiGate-100A, 200A and 300A are for SMBs, while the Fortigate-400A and 500A are aimed at mid-size enterprises.
The appliances, with a new security architecture and version 2.8 FortiOS firmware, integrate antivirus, firewall, virtual private networking (VPN), network-based intrusion detection and prevention (IDP), Web content filtering, traffic shaping, anti-spam and grayware blocking, including spyware and adware protection. FortiOS 2.8 includes antivirus heuristic support to help prevent attacks by previously unknown viruses.
The systems offer increased performance and throughput with the aim of supporting increased bandwidth as customers expand their use of VoIP and Web applications, Fortinet said. They offer additional interfaces for more flexibility in configuration, ASIC-based network content processing, and support for high-availability clustering technology.
Designed for medium-sized and small businesses, remote offices, retail stores and broadband telecommuter sites, the FortiGate-100A and 200A systems offer dual WAN link support for redundant Internet connections and an integrated four-port switch that gives networked devices a direct connection and eliminates the need for an external hub of switch.
The 300A model, for medium-sized businesses and enterprise branch offices running on or upgrading to gigabit-speed networks, features six independent interfaces, of which two support gigabit Ethernet.
The FortiGate-400A and 500A, for mid-sized enterprises, include two 10/100/1000 Ethernet copper ports and four 10/100 fast Ethernet ports. The 500A also includes four 10/100 fast Ethernet switch ports for flexibility in topology design.
All FortiGate systems can be updated automatically and continuously by Fortinet's FortiProtect Network.
All the A Series systems are currently available for order and will ship in mid-November. Pricing ranges from $1,695 for the FortiGate-100A to $9,995 for the 500A.
