Description: Data stuck in silos is costing you money. It's time for consolidation.

Today, I want to talk about a term that's very familiar to farmers, that's familiar to people in IT, and let me tell you what's wrong with it. Silo. Too often corporations have all these little silos in which they have apps and they have hardware and they have data and they are not connected in any way.

So imagine that you want to figure out, you know, how many customers you have in a certain geography, or whatever, and that information is in you know three or four places. Well, how are you going to get at that? So that's the problem that many companies face today and how do you solve it? I'll tell you how, right here. And that is the big problem that a lot of the money spent today is on integration and so a goal for a company has to be is to get rid of these Silos, get rid of them, and figure out a way to link up everything so that all the data can be accessed, all of their hardware can be leveraged more across a number of applications.

And this means that you have to move to the notion of consolidation, and Web services, and all these terms you hear about. So as you see silos are an impediment to progress, and it's just going to cost you more and more the longer you wait. So when you hear the term silo, run for cover.
