Browser wars: who’s the fastest?

Brendan Eich, CTO of Mozilla, talks about the race for the fastest browser engine. Google, Microsoft, Apple—are all competing with Mozilla. The competition, he says, is good for users and developers.

>> Microsoft has a browser and they have about 70% market shares and obviously they've woken up to what you've accomplished at Firefox,

with Firefox but recently Google, which is a source of your revenue has come up with a browser called Chrome and there seems to be

a raging debate in the industry about, ya know, which browser's better and faster and, obviously, you think yours is better and faster

but I've seen some tests recently in which the Chrome browser is faster, is this a temporary situation?

>> It's really a neck and neck race there's a contest going on, not only between Google and Mozilla but also Apple, to have the fastest

JAVA script engine, to have the best performance on various benchmarks and this is great competition is good for users and for Web

developers. Another focus for us, especially for me, is the Web developers, the set of users who actually also write Web content, so

we're right in there, we're slugging it out. On the Google benchmarks there inaudible engine is faster, on Apple's benchmarks we're

faster than Google currently, it's gonna vary you're gonna see it go back and forth so it's only gonna go up, which is the best thing

for developers and that's what we're focused on.
