WWDC 2009: Apple offers a $99 iPhone

At Apple's WWDC in San Francisco, Apple's SVP of marketing, Philip Schiller, announces that the company will make its cheapest iPhone even cheaper. The 8GB model will start selling immediately for $99, a $100 price cut.

Knocking sounds

>> But we want to reach even more customers, and make our phones even more affordable because so many people would love to get into an iPhone.

>> So in addition to that we're going to keep a model of the iPhone 3G on the market, priced at a breakthrough price, just 99 dollars.

>> When we think about it, a high end Smartphone, state of the art, the phone that changed everything, and people can get into it at a price that really there's never been a good Smartphone yet at this price point. We really hope this opens the market up even more.
