Welcome to ZDNet's 2008 Holiday Gift Guide

What good is it to have the best line-up of product bloggers around if they can’t help you pick out holiday presents?

With that in mind, we tapped our crack crew to help us help you find the year’s best tech gift ideas. We’ll run the gamut from those of you who actually have some money to spend this year (see Adrian Kingsley-Hughes’ best high-end hardware) to those of you feeling a tad more frugal (see Matthew Miller’s best free cell phones), and everyone in between.

Be sure to check back between now and the holidays, as we’ll keep adding more lists between now and then.

Happy gadget shopping… and happy holidays. - The Editors

While we're not in love with the design and would have liked some additional features, the real beauty of the T-Mobile G1 is the Google Android platform, as it has the potential to make smartphones more personal and powerful. That said, it's not quite there yet, so for now, the G1 is best suited for early adopters and gadget hounds, rather than consumers and business users.

    Amazon Kindle

With its free built-in wireless capabilities and PC-free operation, Amazon's Kindle holds a distinct advantage over Sony's Reader and is a promising evolution of the electronic book--but Amazon needs to bring down the pricing for both the device and the content to attract a wider audience.

    Apple iPhone 3G (8GB)

The iPhone 3G delivers on its promises by adding critical features and sharper call quality. The iTunes App Store is pretty amazing, and the 3G support is more than welcome. Critical features still are missing, and the battery depletes quickly under heavy use, but the iPhone 3G is a big improvement over the original model.
